Casa Pequena

LISBON, 2016

This is reconversion project of an apartment’s annex, located in a typical Lisbon backyard, into a studio for artists and creative persons.

The open plan annex had poor habitability due to the lack of natural light, insulation of the facade and pavement. The project solves technical issues of waterproofing and insolation of the building’s envelope and draws new openings with the exterior – windows; and functionalities -scullery, sanitary installation and heating stove area.

In the interior it was decided to maintain the formal characteristics that had a differentiating imprint – beams in wood of support of the cover, and conjugates them with new identities – the glazed window and continuous pavement. The new technical infrastructures – scullery and sanitary installation, are executed with the pre-existing materials – wood and plaster, to generate spatial continuity.

The decoration project is marked by simple elements, scouted in flea markets and coming from the artistic sphere in order to emphasise the use to which the space is intended.
